Head There
HeadThere Corporation is a startup company based in San Francisco, USA. The founders have developed patent-pending hardware and software technology in the mobile telepresence space that has applications across multiple markets including assisted living care, remote worker communications and connection to difficult-to-access facilities such as clean rooms, quarantined areas, warehouses and overseas facilities. The company has a working prototype of a remotely controlled device called the “Giraffe,” a human-height physical avatar integrated with a videoconferencing system that can be accessed via a simple laptop interface over the Internet. A remote person with no prior training can navigate the Giraffe down hallways, through doorways and around tables and chairs, look around via a pan/tilt/zoom camera, and be seen and heard in real time via a life-size portrait image from their own webcam. The remote person can even adjust the Giraffe’s height to “sit” at a table or bedside. The device can be manufactured in volume for under $1,000 and will support an initial retail price in the targeted markets of about $5,000. The company has seed funding, has trial commitments already in place with several assisted living and Fortune 500 corporations and is currently seeking $2 million in Series A funding.
